Figure Study - Mel - African Drum

This was the first shoot I did in 2023. Mel is a graduate of the Georgian College Photography course for who I modelled for in a few of her assignments. I was surprised and grateful when she approached me to ask why I had not asked her to be part of my series. I told her that I would be honoured to include her a part of this project. Thank you to my studio assistant Jessica Rosati. The drum was provide by KA Photo Studio.

History - there are at least five different types of African drums. These drums originated in Western Africa in an area which includes Burkina Faso, Gambia, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Mali and Senegal. They date back to 1230 AD. The djembe, one version of the African drum was first noticed by western audiences around 1952.
