Figure Study - Monica - Double Bass

I was extremely proud of the fact that I have a model that competed in gymnastics for Canada at the 1988 Olympics in Seul, South Korea. I met Monica and her spouse during COVID. They were walking out of a trail in Springwater Township with their two large dogs. During this time of being cooped up and approached them to see if I could take a picture of them. When I contacted Monica to send her the image this is when I found out about Monica’s amazing life journey. She posed for a photography course assignment outside in February when it was -20 celsius. She was thrilled that I asked to take part in my series especially since she had recently celebrated her 50th birthday. I was fortunate to have Jessica Rosati as my studio assistant. This ended up to be my last shoot of this series in 2022. The double bass was supplied by Kene Hyatt of the Barrie Music School.

History - the double bass is the largest and lowest pitched instrument in the modern symphony orchestra. It is generally thought that it was developed in Europe in the 15th Century.

Shot at the Georgian College Photography Studio June 9, 2022.
